Cronulla Surfing Academy

Cronulla Surfing Academy - // Australia's surfing coast //

Cronulla Surfing Academy is owned and operated by former tour professional Blake Johnston.

Blake learnt to surf in 1988, aged six, with his father, Wayne, a finalist at NSW’s first ever schoolboy surf championships.

After a successful junior career that included a top 10 finish in the 1999 Australian Pro Junior Series, Blake competed regularly on the WQS (World Qualifying Series) tour from 2003 to 2005 before settling back at his home beach of Cronulla.

He’s happy teaching beginners through to elite surfers, and reckons people get the best experience with a coach who knows how to teach across all levels.

His favourite Cronulla wave is Voodoo, located a few hundred metres off the north headland.

“It breaks both left and right onto this shallow ledge that can handle up to a five metre swell."

"On a perfect day with a big south swell and light northwest wind you get crystal barrels big enough to drive a car through.”

Blake’s brothers Adam and Ben inherited their father's surfing pedigree – both are sponsored board-riders – and as all the Johnston boys live in the Cronulla Shire they still go surfing together regularly.
