Newcastle Surf School

Newcastle Surf School - // Australia's surfing coast //

Newcastle Surf School was founded by local boy Daniel Frodsham, whose board-riding ability at an early age was apparent even within the high-octane surfing environment of the Newcastle area beaches.

Beginning in 1989, Dan won a series of regional and NSW surfing titles, before turning professional at age 20 and joining the World Qualifying Series tour. Fittingly, Dan’s best result in the pro ranks came at the prestigious Mark Richards Pro in his home town, where he was placed fifth.

Semi-retired at the tender age of 26, Dan took up an offer to start a surf school in Newcastle, gaining level one and level two surf coaching accreditation and taking charge of the development of some of the area’s hottest junior surfing talent.

Whether teaching beginners or budding professionals, Dan feels a background in competitive surfing best equips a coach to impart knowledge and understanding of how to correctly read wave conditions.

Dan’s commitment to his home patch these days extends to a role as president of surfing Newcastle and as head coach of surfing at the Hunter Academy of Sports.

Newcastle Surf School proudly participates in safe surfing programs with several schools and with the State Government’s active after-school program.
