Surfing Cronulla Surf School

Surfing Cronulla Surf School - // Australia's surfing coast //

Mark Aprilovic started surfing at Cronulla aged 13 and it wasn’t long before he was taking on the big reef breaks of Voodoo and famous Cronulla Point.

At 20 years of age he left to seek out waves elsewhere in the world backpacking around the north and south islands of New Zealand before setting his sights on South Africa, Europe and North Africa.

On his return, Mark joined Cronulla Boardriders and quickly discovered an interest in, and gift for, mentoring the club’s junior talent.

He was one of the first to recognise and encourage the abilities of a young Cronulla goofy-footer named Mark Occhilupo, who history now records as one of Australia’s best ever pro surfers, winner of the world title in 1999.

Having competed at state and national level, Mark began coaching in 1982, acquired Level 1 and Level 2 coaching accreditation and is now a certified master coach.

Surfing Cronulla Surf School began operations in 1994 in conjunction with Mark’s surf shop Cronulla Surf Design.

Today the surf school has a staff of 14 professionally trained coaches, and with Mark having relinquished the responsibility of running the surf shop in 2008, he is now engaged full-time teaching learn-to-surfers and developing the skills of the next generation of the Cronulla Shire’s surfing superstars.
