Yamba - // Australia's surfing coast //

Turner’s Beach sits beside the mouth of the Clarence River at Yamba and is hemmed in by a long break-wall at the north end and a prominent headland complete with lighthouse to the south. As a result it enjoys protection from the wind at both ends, and only really suffers from a breeze that’s blowing due east.

Turner’s is not a big wave destination and generally sees long rolling white water in larger swells, or a soft beach break when it’s small. Being effectively Yamba’s town beach, Turner’s is patrolled by lifeguards every day during summer. In recent years the formerly sleepy town of Yamba has become a hugely popular summer holiday destination and the place is well on the radar of surf safari travellers in NSW too.

As a result there’s a range of local accommodation but you will need to book early if you want to visit during the school holiday periods. Yamba Waters Holiday Park sits beside the tidal lagoon a short stroll from the beach, and offers family villas, studio apartments, camping/caravan sites with the usual family vacation amenities and amusements for kids.

Getting there:
Yamba is 670km north of Sydney, about nine hours' drive. You can also fly Sydney to Ballina airport, which is about a 90 minute drive to Yamba.
